Wheels - are a hotspot in design/style innovation and vehicle weight reduction. Because of ongoing advances in steelmaking technology, car manufacturers can now rely on our high strength, low alloy, highly formable hot roll products to produce innovative wheel designs. The result: a wheel that's lightweight, durable, high-performance, stylish and less costly to produce than traditional cast or forged aluminum wheels.

Frames - our portfolio includes steel products that position Lake Erie Works as a strong competitor in the light/heavy truck frame market. Truck frames are manufactured by stamping, roll forming, and, through a relatively new process, "hydroforming" of steel tubes into frame components. Hydroformed tubes can also consolidate several traditionally-stamped parts into a single tube, providing benefits to truck manufacturers such as better cost control and design flexibility. The dimensional and mechanical properties of our hot rolled coil, coupled with its excellent formability, allow manufacturers to design frames to exacting specifications.

Structural parts - We supply hot rolled steel sheets for structural automotive parts with attributes ranging from low strength/super-formable to ultra-high strengths. The trend is toward higher strength steels to improve crash-worthiness in the passenger compartment and increasing energy absorption at the front/rear of the automobile. We continue to develop high-strength steels for safety-critical applications. Dual-phase steel represents the future of automotive steel, providing high-strength for weight reduction, exceptional formability for making complex parts and first-rate crash energy absorption to meet the most stringent safety standards.
